This is an exciting opportunity for a brilliant, progressive-minded, passionate, and uncompromising individual to join and grow with our very tight family here at Tree House with the full-time position of Tree House Orchardist. We want you to help us cultivate and nourish our burgeoning orchard to bear appreciable and beautiful terroir-filled fruit for our wild and mixed fermentation beer program. As the Tree House Orchardist, you will be responsible for the following:
Developing, sourcing, planting, and maintaining the orchard at Tree House consisting of a wide variety of fruit-bearing trees and bushes including, but not limited to, apple, raspberry, blackberry, peach, pear, plum, cherry, currants, gooseberries, and more.
Managing the ongoing needs of the orchard by monitoring weather patterns and addressing concerns swiftly and immediately in conjunction with the orchard staff;
Creating and implementing Standard Operating Procedures.
Planning and overseeing the planting and introduction of new and more challenging fruit trees in conjunction with Tree House leadership.
Overseeing the general operations and maintenance of the orchard including, but not limited to, mowing, pruning, erecting trellis systems, maintaining orchard equipment; developing and implementing a plan for an efficient and effective harvest of each crop variety that delivers the most pristine fruit for use in the brewery.
Anything and everything that contributes to a positive, fruitful outcome for the orchard.
Working within a generous budget to achieve fruit full of character and distinctiveness.
Extraordinary oral and written communication skills. Ability to lead a team to achieve predetermined goals.
You are self-motivated, with demonstrable creative and critical thinking capabilities.
A quick learner who is able to work with minimal or no supervision.
3 - 5 Years experience in a relevant agricultural role is a must. This is not an entry-level position.
Must possess a high-level understanding and intimate knowledge of orchard management, entomology, and tree fruit knowledge.
Ability to lift, push, & pull in excess of 50 #.
Experience interpreting regulations on a municipal, state, and federal level
Ability to work comfortably outdoors in all seasons.
An undergraduate degree with an applicable focus
Ability to work long and varied hours
Ability to multitask and work coolly and professionally in time sensitive situations
Meticulous attention to detail
